Click
to select areas in the 'Select Area' scrollable list. You can select one or
more areas. Selected areas are highlighted in blue. To select or deselect
multiple areas, hold down the 'Ctrl' button on your keyboard and click multiple
areas. Click the 'Next' button when you are satisfied with your selection.
Filters
may be available to help you make your selection. Filter areas will be listed
by area type in the 'Select Filter' list. Click one or more filter areas in the
list to select them and click the 'Apply Filter' icon. This will filter the
list of areas in the 'Select Area' list - ensure that all of these are selected
(i.e. highlighted in blue) and click the 'Next' button.
If
you logged in you may have access to custom area selections. You can save, load
or delete custom selections. To save a new selection, type a name into the
'Enter your custom area selection name' box and click the 'Save Areas' icon. To
load an existing selection, click to select the desired selection in the 'Your
saved area selections' box and click the 'Load Areas' icon. To delete a
selection click to select the desired selection in the 'Your saved area
selections' box and click the 'Delete Areas' icon.
You
may have a 'Show Map' button available on this page. Click on this button to
make your selection of areas using a map. The map legend lists the area types
shown in the map. The toolbar located above the map gives access to tools for
interacting with the map. From left to right, the tools are the following:

Zoom to original map extent. Click this icon to return to
the original extent of the map.
·
Zoom in. Click the Zoom in icon and then click on the
location in the map you wish to zoom in to. To zoom to an area, click and hold
the mouse button while dragging a box around the area in the map that you wish
to zoom to.

Zoom out. Click the Zoom out icon and then click on the
location in the map you wish to zoom out from. To zoom out so that the
geography fills an area of a particular size, click and hold the mouse button
while dragging a box around the area in the map that you wish the geography to
fill.
·
Select or deselect an area. Click the Select/Deselect
icon and click an area in the map to select or deselect it. Selected areas in
the map are shaded yellow while areas that are not selected are shaded white.
·
Clear current selection. Click the Clear current
selection icon to deselect all areas in the map and return the map to its
original size.
·
Identify an area. Click the Identify an area icon and
then click an area in the map. The name of the area will be displayed above the
map.
·
Show or hide background map. Click the Show or hide
background map icon to toggle the background map.
You
can hold your mouse pointer over the icons in the toolbar to find out what the
tools do. Click an icon to use a tool. The icon for the active tool is
highlighted in yellow. To pan the map click the yellow arrows located around
the map border.
You
can display additional layers in map to help you make your selection. These are
listed below the map. Click a layer, or type of layer, and then click the
'Update Map' button. You can select multiple layers, or types of layer, by
holding down the 'Ctrl' button on your keyboard and clicking different layers.
Select None and then the 'Update Map' button if you wish to remove any
additional layers from the map.
The
areas that you have selected in the map will be displayed in the scrollable
list below the map. You can click the 'Hide Map' button to hide the map. Click
the 'Show Selected Items' button to display the area type and list of areas
selected for your advanced data explorer. You can click the 'Hide Selected
Items' button to hide this information.
Click
the 'Next' icon when you are satisfied with your selection.
Click
the 'Back' icon if you wish to return to the previous page.
